Output Ports

The smallBMS is equipped with three distinct outputs, each serving a specific function to ensure comprehensive management of your battery system:

Load Disconnect Output

The Load Disconnect output is normally in a high state and becomes free-floating if the cell voltage drops below the set threshold (default 2.8V per cell, adjustable between 2.6V and 2.8V). This output can handle a maximum current of 1A and is not short-circuit protected.

Applications:

• Control a high current relay or contactor
• Manage the remote on/off for Battery Protect units, inverters, DC-DC converters, or other connected loads

Pre-Alarm Output

The Pre-Alarm output remains free-floating under normal conditions and activates to a high state when cell voltage approaches the under-voltage threshold (default 3.1V per cell, adjustable between 2.85V and 3.15V). It supports a maximum current of 1A without short-circuit protection. A minimum delay of 30 seconds exists between the pre-alarm activation and load disconnect.

Charge Disconnect Output

The Charge Disconnect output is normally high and becomes free-floating in the event of imminent cell overvoltage or over-temperature conditions. It supports a maximum current of 10mA and is not suitable for driving inductive loads like relay coils.

Applications:

• Control the remote on/off of a charger
• Operate a Cyrix-Li-Charge relay
• Manage a Cyrix-Li-ct Battery Combiner

System On/Off Input

The System On/Off input manages both the Load and Charger outputs. When turned off, both outputs become free-floating, effectively disconnecting loads and chargers. This input consists of two terminals: Remote L and Remote H. You can connect a remote on/off switch or relay contact between these terminals, or alternatively, switch terminal H to battery positive or terminal L to battery negative.

The smallBMS is versatile and suitable for use with 12V, 24V, and 48V marine and boating power systems. Its broad operating voltage range of 8 to 70V DC ensures compatibility with a wide array of battery setups commonly found in marine environments.
