Product Description
Product Description
The Galvonic Isolator VDI-32A is a high-performance waterproof device designed to protect your boat from electrolytic corrosion. By blocking harmful low voltage DC currents that enter your vessel through the shore power earth wire, this isolator safeguards essential underwater metals such as the hull, propeller, and shaft, ensuring the longevity and integrity of your marine equipment.
Key Features
- Maximum Current Rating: 32 Amps
- Waterproof Design: Potted for enhanced durability in marine environments
- Terminal Posts: 6mm (1/4") for secure connections
- Voltage Threshold: Diodes conduct at approximately 1.4 Vdc
- Compact Installation: Fits directly behind your boat's 120V - 230V power connection
How It Works
The Galvonic Isolator VDI-32A utilizes two diodes connected in an anti-parallel configuration. This arrangement allows current to flow in both directions only when the voltage exceeds approximately 1.4 Vdc. By doing so, the isolator effectively blocks low voltage DC currents that can cause corrosion while permitting normal operation of higher voltage AC circuits. In the event of an error voltage in the AC circuit, the diodes will conduct, prompting the residual-current device to interrupt the circuit and prevent potential damage.
Installation Instructions
- Safety First: Ensure all power sources are turned off before beginning installation.
- Locate Shore Power Connection: Identify the 120V - 230V shore power connection point on your boat.
- Position Isolator: Install the Galvonic Isolator VDI-32A directly behind the shore power connection.
- Connect Terminal Posts: Attach the 6mm (1/4") terminal posts to the respective power and earth wires securely.
- Secure Connections: Ensure all electrical connections are tight and waterproofed to prevent exposure to marine elements.
- Test Installation: Restore power and verify the isolator is functioning correctly by checking for proper current flow and absence of corrosion indicators.
