How It Works

The fuel level gauge functions by sending a low amperage current through the gauge's meter to ground via a sending unit with variable resistance. Changes in pressure, temperature, and other factors cause the resistance of the sending unit to fluctuate. As the resistance varies, the amount of current flowing through to the ground changes, resulting in the meter deflecting to accurately display the current fuel level.
